Luggage Storage at Ueno Station
Ueno Station is Tokyo's gateway to its most concentrated cultural district, serving around 180,000 passengers daily via JR, Tokyo Metro, and Shinkansen (Tohoku and Hokuriku) lines. The station sits steps away from Ueno Park, the Tokyo National Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Ueno Zoo, and the famous Ameya-Yokocho street market.
Lockers are spread across multiple areas inside and outside the ticket gates. The Park Exit side is closest to Ueno Park and the museums; the Shinobazu Exit side connects to the Ameya-Yokocho shopping street. The green markers indicate lockers inside the ticket gates; blue markers are outside.
Lockers near the Park Exit fill up quickly on weekends and during cherry blossom season (late March–April). If you're visiting during peak periods, we strongly recommend checking availability here before heading to the station.

Which Ueno Lockers Need a Ticket?

Seven of the twelve locker banks at Ueno are outside the ticket
gates — at the Shinobazu Gate (不忍口), the Iriya Gate (入谷口) and the main
entrance. That is unusually generous for a Tokyo hub, and it is good news if you are
heading for Ueno Park, the zoo or the museums without taking another train.
The remaining five are inside: the Central Gate, the Park Exit, the Shinobazu Gate
passage and the Shinkansen gates. The Shinkansen bank is the useful one if you are
breaking a journey north — you can store a bag without leaving the paid area at all.
The Park Exit side is the shortest walk to Ueno Park and the museums, so those lockers
go first on weekends and during cherry-blossom season. The Iriya Gate side, on the
opposite end of the station, is usually quieter.
