Tips
How to Use Hongdae Lockers
-
🛫
AREX to Incheon Airport — Hongdae is an AREX stop. Direct train to Terminal 1 takes about 53 min. Store your bags, enjoy the neighbourhood, then head to the airport.
-
🏠
Check-in/out gap — Hongdae has one of the highest concentrations of guesthouses and Airbnbs in Seoul. Coin lockers are ideal for filling the gap between checkout and check-in.
-
⏰
Last train warning — Hongdae is a nightlife hub, but lockers are only accessible during subway hours (approx. 05:30–01:00). You cannot retrieve bags after the last train. Plan accordingly or use Bounce for overnight storage.
-
💳
Payment — Accepts T-money, credit cards, and mobile payment (T-Locker app). Most lockers do not accept cash directly.
-
🚇
Long transfer corridors — The AREX platform is at basement level 4 and Line 2 at level 2. With heavy luggage, use the elevator exits (3 or 4) to minimise walking distance.
About Hongik University Station
Luggage Storage in Seoul's Most Energetic District
Hongik University Station (홍대입구역) — universally known as Hongdae — handles approximately 150,000 passengers daily, making it one of Seoul's busiest stations. It is served by Metro Line 2, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and the Airport Railroad Express (AREX), which provides a direct connection to Incheon Airport in about 53 minutes.
Hongdae is unlike any other station in Seoul. Surrounding the famous art university, the district is dense with indie music venues, busking spots, all-night clubs, quirky cafés, and an enormous number of guesthouses and short-term rentals. For travellers, this means two things: the area is magnetic enough to spend hours in, and the demand for luggage storage — especially during the check-in/check-out gap — is exceptionally high.
Nearby Yeonnam-dong (연남동) and the Gyeongui Line Forest Park offer a quieter contrast — perfect for a café afternoon while your bags are stored. Exit 8 and 9 lead directly to the main Hongdae street and busking zone; Exit 3 connects to Yeonnam-dong and the AREX platforms. With heavy luggage, the elevator at Exit 3 or 4 is strongly recommended given the long vertical distance between the AREX and Line 2 platforms.
Lockers at Hongdae fill up fast on weekends and during peak travel periods. Weekends in particular see high turnover as the nightlife crowd keeps the area active late into the night — but remember, the lockers close with the subway. Check availability here before arriving.
